Information about Product Photography

If you are a business owner offering an outstanding product, chances are you will have to advertise this product either via your own website, social media or print media.

To make a success of your business and sell products, you will have to do marketing and introduce the public to your product.

This is where I come in.

Picksees Photography can assist you with the photographing of your product/s in such a way that it would interest buyers.

Either by making use of pack shots or spending a bit more time on photographing your luxury items.

I have been a full-time studio studio photographer for ±12 years now and operating in the Pretoria East area.

I work from my home based studio which is a quiet, comfortable and a private space.

This is where I would prefer to photograph your products.

I use a variety of professional equipment and my studio set-up is already geared towards photographing your products in the fastest possible way, without loss of quality.

If however, your product can’t be moved or only moved with great difficulty, we can come to an arrangement to photograph at your factory or business premisses.

I use a variety of Canon Camera Bodies and Lenses as well as Elinchrom Lighting Equipment.

Back-up equipment are always on standby if needed.

During my 12 years of being a professional photographer, I have refined my process as follows:

Please provide me with the following information in order for me to provide you with a customised quotation:

What kind of product you would like me to photograph. Is it simple pack shots for a catalogue or an e-commerce site? Or is it a more luxurious product and the images will be used in an advertising campaign, etc?
The size of your product.
The amount of products that you would like me to photograph.
Do I have to travel?
In which format would you like me to provide the images? For example jpegs or png.
The size of the images required. This will largely depend on the purpose or future use of the images.
Do you require any styling of your products.
Will digital manipulation be required on any of the images.
Will we need a model or stylist?
Props? Wardrobe, built set?

Once you have accepted my quote, we can agree on a time that would suit both parties.

Clients are welcome to drop off their products at the studio and collect again once the shoot has been completed.

In the case of jewellery or other expensive items, it will be best if you stay for the photo session or arrange insurance for the time that your product will be at my studio.

All images will be go through a process of post production where colour will be corrected and little imperfections will be removed.

I will provide you with an online gallery of your images. This will provide you with the opportunity to approve your images first. If you are satisfied, the final product will be forwarded to you via Dropbox.

You are welcome to discuss any styling or creative ideas with me. I would love to incorporate your ideas into the final product if it is within my means.

I will normally have a look at your brand before hand to make sure that I get the feel for your product and portray it correctly. I am also open to discussions on exactly what it is that you want from the final product.

Good images of your product will really enhance your brand awareness.

A baby is a blessing indeed. Such a special time in any couples life.

You are now a mommy… a daddy… a family. Bonded together. Why not capture this special moment with some special photos?

Years from now, you will be able to look back at these images and reflect on how tiny your baby was. How tiny his toes were.

How small her little button nose was. The absolute perfection of your newborn baby.

Picksees Photography would love to assist you in creating these memories.

I do NOT travel for newborn sessions. I have a large amount of props, lighting equipment, and backdrops and it would not be feasible to travel with the quality of work I do.

I do all my newborn photo sessions in my studio in Silver Lakes, Pretoria East. You are welcome to contact me for special arrangements if you perhaps have a special needs baby, child or just circumstances that makes it difficult for you to travel.

We often offer special offers for a combination Pregnancy/Newborn Photo Session.

Ideally, my preference from experience, is that newborns between 4-10 days old take the best photos.

After 10 days old the babies starts to stretch their limbs out a little more and are awake for longer periods of time.

However, if your baby is older than 10 days don’t fret, I will still get amazing photos. It might just take longer.

During your photo session I will take as many photos as possible. Afterwards you will receive a link to the gallery where you can view your images and make your selection.

The amount of images in the gallery will depend on how much time we had to shoot and how many images your package provides for.

If you are late, you will receive less images due to time constraints.

I will take photos of mom, dad and siblings during the same session. No additional session has to be booked for family photos.

We have a small and intimate studio. Our studio can accommodate 5 people at the most.

On the day of the shoot:-

Make sure baby has a nice, full tummy before you leave the house to come to the studio. This way, the baby will still be full and has probably fallen asleep in the car. I can immediately get started on the session when you arrive and hopefully get an hour or two of photos done before baby needs a feeding break.

I also recommend parents trying to keep their baby awake in the couple hours leading up to the session. If the baby has slept all morning and then arrives at my studio, they just might be ready for a long awake period, which makes the job of getting them sleepy all that much harder.

So, some tips are to play with baby, talk with baby, maybe even give the baby a bath before the session – whatever it takes to keep them alert for an hour or so. Then, when they arrive in my studio, they’ll be ready for a long nap!

Bring the baby in a button-up or zip-up sleeper. Preferably a loose fitting one. One of the worst things is when baby arrives sleepy in his/her carseat and then you have to remove shoes and socks, pants, and take a shirt off over their heads – which almost always wakes them up.

Instead, it’s so, so simple to zip down and slip off pyjamas while baby remains asleep! And if the pyjamas are loose-fitting, then ideally there won’t be many lines left behind on the baby’s skin. You can even bring your newborn in only a diaper and covered with a blanket. This minimizes lines on the baby’s skin for photos.

DO NOT forget the dummy!! If the baby takes a dummy, you can trust me that you’ll want it there during the session!

My studio is HOT. Please dress lightly. This is for your babies comfort.

I have many, many props/sets/backdrops that we have collected for boys and girls. If you see a certain set design, style or backdrop on our website that you would like me to recreate with your newborn, it is important to let me know BEFORE you arrive so I can prepare. If you do not have any particular requests then I will choose and design the custom sets and have them ready before you arrive.

If you would like to bring any additional props for the photo session – letters, numbers, hats, clothing, stuffed animals, rugby ball, ballet slippers, sports jerseys, etc. – please do! I will do my best to work them into the sets and let you know if I cannot accommodate them.

It’s completely NORMAL for your baby to get a little fussy. Most of the time this can be solved with more heat, a little rocking, and a bit of patience. Your baby will likely require a feeding at some point during the session and this usually solves the more dramatic fussiness issues. At that point I will all take a break and you will be able to give your baby a feeding.

Clothing for parents and siblings: simple, solid colours; avoid logos.

I am well aware that babies seldom do what we would like them to do. They get hungry, have dirty diapers, cry or just become fussy for no particular reason. Please do not worry about this. We will stop and allow you to sooth baby. At the end of the day, we all have the same goal in mind:- we want a happy baby, calm parents and beautiful photos. We do not want this to be a stressful experience for anybody involved.

Moms are treated very kindly in our studio. We understand that you just gave birth and that you might also be sleep deprived. So relax. I will do most of the bending and hard work.

All images are colour corrected and digitally enhanced. Any advanced editing will be subject to an additional charge of ±R100 per image.

All images will be in colour, you can also select some images to be in black and white or with a filter.

Please allow ±two weeks for editing to be completed and photo gallery to be uploaded.

Pregnancy is such a special time in any woman’s life. Your life will change for ever. You are about to become a mother. Someone will depend on you for the rest of life. Someone will call you “mommy”.

Many women love to capture this special time. To create a memory that will last forever… enters the Pregnancy Photo Session.

During your photo session I will take as many photos as possible. Afterwards you will receive a link to the gallery where you can view your images and make your selection.

If you are late, you will receive less images due to time constraints.

I would prefer to photograph your baby bump between 31 and 34 weeks of pregnancy.
During this stage your bump is nice and round and we won’t run the risk of baby arriving earlier.

I am well aware of what it feels like to be pregnant. So if you need a bathroom break, need to rehydrate or just stop for a rest – please tell me.

Please note that our packages do not include prints. Only digital high resolution images. You are welcome to order your prints or gifts from us though our online system.

Packages are not set in stone. You are welcome to contact me for a quote that would suit your specific requirements.

All images are colour corrected and digitally enhanced. Any advanced editing will be subject to an additional charge of ±R100 per image.

Ideas of what to bring with for your pregnancy photo session

Pair of baby’s shoes;

Some of baby’s clothes;

A cute soft toy or any other toy that’s for baby;

A short top that shows your tummy [if you want];

Sonar photo;

You can also bring anything else that will show your feminine side like a lacy night gown, a button-up shirt with lace detail.

And then anything else that you would like to do.

The type of clothes will depend on you and what you feel comfortable in. A dress is usually a good idea for something soft and feminine. Trousers that you will be comfortable in with a buttom up shirt that shows your tummy.

Lace and soft materials usually looks lovely.

All of these are just suggestions. You are welcome to come with your own ideas.

The white chiffon dress below belongs to the studio and can be used in your photos shoot, as well as all the draping.

Make-up and hairstyling:-

The studio does not have an in-house make-up artist or hairstylist. Please arrange for your hair and make-up to be done before hand if you feel that you require a more stylish or polished looked.

It is however not necessary to have your hair and make-up done by a professional for your family photos. It is a personal choice and if you are comfortable doing your own, please do so. Especially if you would like to appear more natural.

We can also assist you with your baby’s newborn photo session, once the little bundle has been born.

Your photo session can even take place at your own house. We call this a “lifestyle photo session”. This kind of photo session works very well for a family with small children or special needs families. Or maybe you just love your house and you would like to capture your memories there.

We do not charge extra for large groups. Perhaps just consider booking a longer shooting time.

A travel fee might be applicable if travelling outside of Pretoria is expected.

What to wear:-

Avoid clothes with bright patterns. Rather go for solid colours. Take your surroundings into consideration. For example don’t wear green if your surroundings will be gardens, grass or trees.

Blue jeans with plain tops work best.

Ladies should avoid baby doll dresses and shirts as these can easily add a few kg’s.

Wear clothes that you are comfortable in. If you feel self-conscious you will not photograph well.

In case of group photos, plan ahead and try to select a colour scheme that does not clash.

Take into account that babies and toddlers do not enjoy getting dressed and undressed. Try to keep outfit changes to a minimum.

Also keep in mind that you book an appointment for a specific amount of time eg. 1 hour. If you have too many outfit changes, you will be eating into valuable shooting time. Especially if the changing facilities are far away.

If you are late, this time will be deducted from the shooting time.

Make-up and hairstyling:-

The studio does not have an in-house make-up artist or hairstylist. Please arrange for your hair and make-up to be done before hand if you feel that you require a more stylish or polished looked.

Babies and Toddles:-

Please bring your child’s favourite toys with. This will calm them down and I can use it to personalise the photos.

Make sure your child is well rested and fed before the shoot. Try and book your photo session with your child’s napping time in mind. In the event that your child is feeling under the weather, please reschedule. Sick children will not feel up for a photo shoot, leaving you disappointed with the end product.

Do not schedule a photo shoot for your baby or toddler within three days after an inoculation. Inoculations can make your baby feel miserable.

Keep in mind, that if your baby/toddler is not used to strangers or leaving the house, your photo session might not be the wonderful experience you envisioned.

Babies/toddlers that stay at home with a single caretaker and never leave the house, find the photography experience challenging and frightening. Keep your child’s personality and character in mind when booking your photo session.
